An Exclusive Literary Contest! presented by The Social Services Network in collaboration with MyBindi.com, The Markham Arts Council, The Town of Markham and The International Festival of Authors.
Are you a South Asian student between the ages of 14-17? Do you live in Markham or the GTA? Are you a self-proclaimed writer or poet? This super opportunity is for you!
Submit a poem or prose piece (prose: 500 words maximum, poetry: 1 page maximum) on the topic: "Why local literature matters" and you could win the opportunity to attend International Festival of Authors: Markham on October 21st, 2011. You'll meet and greet the Mayor of Markham, community leaders and of course, award-winning authors!
Only TWO lucky students will get this exclusive opportunity. So submit your best, creative work by October 17th, 2011 to [email protected]
Prize per winner includes an invitation to Mayor's Hour/Evening of Readings, a free signed book by the author of your choice, recognition for your literary masterpiece at IFOA: Markham, and your winning entries will be published on MyBindi.com.

Contest will be judged by local author and SSN Youth Engagement Consultant, Sheniz Janmohamed.
About Sheniz Janmohamed: Sheniz is a spoken word artist, author and graduate of the MFA in Creative Writing program at the University of Guelph.She has been mentored by award-winning authors including Dionne Brand, Thomas King and Kuldip Gill. She is the founder of Ignite Poets, a youth spoken word initiative with an emphasis on social awareness. She is also the author of Bleeding Light (TSAR Publications) a collection of Sufi poetry written in Ghazal form. She has been featured at the TedXYouth Conference "This is Not a Reading Series" and The Festival of South Asian Literature & Arts.
