Have you eaten Chia seeds? If so, good on you! You've consumed a true superfood! Chia seeds, which are native to Mexico and Guatemala is an ancient seed that packs a nutritional punch! Its loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, manganese, calcium and phosphorus!
You can find chia seeds in most health foods stores and can be found in white, darkbrown and black. But avoid the red chia seeds as they are immature seeds or even the black seeds that are smaller than average - those are called weed seeds.
Consuming them is EASY - they can be added to anything and won't change the flavour of your dish! And the great thing about them (in my opinion) is if added to a liquid they puff up and form a creamy, gelatinous sphere around them that are so fun to eat! I personally use them in a little bit of coconut milk with some fruit and organic maple syrup to satisfy a dessert craving, because it becomes almost pudding like.
Here are some added benefits of chia seeds:
- combats type 2 diabetes by slowing digestion
-fights belly fat by stabilizing blood sugar
-adds fibre to your diet
-provides accessible vegetarian omega 3 fatty acids
-packs in protein along with everything else!
Try them out and see how great they are! You'll love having this superfood in your pantry!
