Shweta Subram has established herself as one of Canada's finest vocalists. With her dusky looks and powerful voice, Shweta Subram's debut single, Jee Le Live Life, is making waves all over the world. With only one original single to her credit, Shweta has already generated interest amongst the crème da la crème of Bollywood. During the month of June, Shweta Subram was invited to participate at the Indian International Film Academy Awards (IIFA) with Bollywood maestros Salim-Sulaiman. She was given the opportunity to render the song Khuda Ke Liye from their forthcoming movie, Aazaan. Her performance received great appreciation by renowned Bollywood singer Sonu Nigaam and other celebrities that were present at the event.
Shweta was born in Dubai and started her carnatic music training under the guidance of Mrs.Bhagavati Sankaran. She then moved to Ottawa and completed her schooling with a B.Comm (Honours in Marketing) and minor in Psychology. After her graduation, her passion for music took over and she participated in the North American Talent Hunt organized by Sangam Kala Group (a Delhi-based organization which discovered legends such as Sonu Nigaam, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Shreya Ghosal) in Toronto. She bagged the title of Best Singer in North America and was flown down to India to participate in the nationwide search for best singer. She was selected in the top 10 and was invited by Gajendra Singh to be featured on Star Plus reality show, Amul Star Voice of India. After her stint on Star Plus, she was invited by Zoom TV to be a prominent part of a reality show called Sunsilk Gang of Girls, which created a 5-girl band. Shweta remained a member of the girl band for a year and performed in multiple cities and college festivals across India. She also made appearances on Sahara One TV show Jhoom India, B4U Music's B4U Express, and Zee Music. During her stay in India, she performed alongside various celebrities such as Shaan, Leslie Lewis, Atif Aslam, Abhijit Sawant and Sukhbir to name a few.
Despite her hectic schedules in India, Shweta did not give up on her musical training. She enrolled in Hindustani classical classes with Padma Wadkar, a fabulous vocalist and wife of the well-known singer Suresh Wadkar, and also with Sunil Borgaonkar. After a year-and-a-half of training, Shweta returned to Canada and continued her passion for singing. She ventured into composing and songwriting and created her debut song, Jee Le Live Life, which was released in June 2011. This song was produced by Parichay and has been receiving phenomenal response in the UK & Canada. Shortly after the debut of her single, DJ Shadow of Dubai approached Shweta to create a house mix for this track. DJ Shadow is a well-renowned DJ and has officially remixed for Jay Sean, RDB, H-Dhami, Stereo Nation and other artists worldwide.
With only a few months since her debut single released, Shweta Subram has been extremely successful in carving a niche for herself and establishing a spot in the music industry. In the forthcoming months, Shweta's fans can expect some exciting collaborations with JoSH and other industry bigwigs. Shweta promises versatility in each of her tracks and hopes that her music will create a lasting impact for years to come.
