desiFEST, Canada’s South Asian Festival , will be celebrating its 5th year anniversary on Saturday, May 28th, 2011, at Yonge & Dundas Square in Toronto ON. Check out who will be rocking the stage at this year’s event.

- Raang is from an Indian community group, called Bharatiya Culture Association of Ontario
- Performing a variety of Indian dances, such as Bharatnatyam and Gujurati Folk all the way to modern Bollywood
- Born in Lahore, now residing in Toronto, Shahid Ali Khan is a Qawali master and musician.
- Studied and performed with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Appeared on OMNI’s “Chardi Kalaa
- Toronto-based duo Swaras was formed in June 2009
- Hit track “Jo Tum Kaho” has been in rotation on radio stations throughout Pakistan, India, UK, USA, UAE, Luxembourg and Canada
- Based in Vancouver, BC, Ray Gill grew up in a diverse multicultural community performing hip hop music
- Ray has released new tracks in 2011 off of his Mixtape “Monster” and “Baby
- Toronto born Singer/Producer/DJ/Dancer/Actor/Model, Dav-eh started his career at the age 10 with writing and composing music
- Dav-eh has performed with many well known artists such as Culture Shock, Raghav, Massari, Shawn Desman, Imran Khan, Dr. Zues and The Bilz and Kashif
- Born in Kuwait, raised in South India and Canada, Rebecca Nazz is a multi-talented singer/songwriter of Pop and Dance
- Rebecca has collaborated with world-renowned reggae artist Apache Indian
- Toronto-based Kat Eyez is known for his versatile approach to music, his style is recognized to relate to the two separate realms of Hip-Hop, (commercial and underground).
- To date, the highly anticipated independent CD, “Katastophe” has sales running over 54,000 units put together by New York’s multi-platinum producer Marcus Kane and Kat Eyes
- Montreal born Prita Chhabra has been singing and writing music since childhood and is known for her RnB and Pop tracks.
- Prita has been featured alongside the likes of #1 Billboard artist Jay Sean, world renowned comic Russell Peters, Grammy nominee Eric Roberson and Michael Jackson tribute group Signature.
- Inderpal Singh Sagu, better known by his stage name Indy Sagu is an acclaimed British Sikh award winning record producer, musician, singer and DJ
- Indy has collaborated with artists such as Surinder Shinda, Kuldeep Manak and performed alongside So Solid Crew and legendary Hip Hop artists Public Enemy and Pras of The Fugees
- Danish Pubjabi Singer/Dancer, Anita Lerche embodies the encounter of the east with the west, she started singing at the age of 7, at 13 she joined a Denmark radio’s girl chorus, at 15 she started singing professionally in a church chorus
- Anita is the first non-Asian woman from the west to sing and release a solo album in Punjabi titled “Heer from Denmark” was inspired by the legend of Heer-Ranjha in November 2006
- UK’s Navin Kundra’s sound is unique to the British Asian & South Asian music scene, he is a versatile multi-lingual singer in English, Hindi and Punjabi. Navin represented the UK in the World Series of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa filmed in Dubai at age 19
- He has shared the stage with an impressive line up of celebrities including: Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty, Jay Sean and many more!
- Toronto based Avalla, meaning unique, is the true essence of this artist collective that has taken Toronto music industry by storm since hitting the scene in 2007
- Opened for artists such as “Barenaked Ladies” at CTV 2010 Winter Olympics tour and Bhangra legend “Malkit Singh” as well as performed at prestigious Trillium Hospital Diwali gala
- As a ‘triple-threat’ artist, Singer, Songwriter and Producer Toronto’s own, Parichay has created a sound that is unique to today’s generation, combining a touch of Hindi Classical and Pop with mainstream Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae, House and Dancehall
- Parichay also produced the official remix of “Khuda Haffiz from the Bollywood movie, “Mittal vs. Mittal”
- Roach Killa has been nominated for several awards “Best International Act” at the UK Asian Music Awards (2010) as well as “Best Newcomer” and “Best Urban Act” at the BritAsia Music Awards (2010)
- He has collaborated with many: Apache Indian on “Hey Gal”, KS Makhan on “Good Luck Charm”, Miss Pooja on “Romantic Jatt” and many others.
- They are known internationally for their Hit-Single, “2-Step Bhangra”, which charted for 4 weeks straight on the Top 7 hits on Z103.5FM
- Opened for international artists such as Enrique Iglesias, 112, Stereo Nation and The Bachchans
- Taz and Stereo Nation’s success included album “Slave II Fusion”, selling 120,000 units in UK/USA and 3 million units in India. Which lead to receiving “Best Selling Album of the Year” at the UK Asian Music Awards (2000)
- They have performed at prestigious events like IIFA 2001, Royal Albert Hall Supporting the charily of Afghanistan, as well as playing live at Annual Gala for the Richest British Asian Awards at the Natural History Museum London in the presence of HRH Prince Charles.
