Aug 13th will be a monumental day for South Asian sports fans in the GTA. The infamous Sher-E-Punjab Sports and Culture Club (SSCC) will be hosting the Canada Kabaddi Cup 2011 at the Powerade Center in Brampton. Teams from all over the world will be participating in this highly anticipated event. Kabaddi is the state game of Punjab in India and is a mix of wrestling, martial arts and adult tag. It is played all over the world with renowned teams in England, Australia, Pakistan and India.
The SSCC has held large-scale Kabaddi tournaments in the past in prestigious venues such as Copps Coliseum and more recently at what was the Skydome in Toronto. This World Cup will be added in their list of accomplishments.
However this year's Canada Kabaddi Cup 2011 will give spectators something to remember. For the first time ever, the SSCC will be hosting 2 women's Kabaddi teams who will be playing an exhibition match atthe Kabaddi Cup. One team is made up of women from the British Army. The second team is an American team. These ladies have competed on a professional level worldwide and now Kabaddi fansfrom Toronto will have a chance to witness these 2 amazing teams on the field. In a sport predominantly geared towards men, this will be an amazing match to watch as women take the stage.
