When Shah Rukh Khan teams up with Yash Raj films, it usually guarantees a winning combination (think DDLJ, Dil to Paagal Hai and Mohabbatein). Let's hope for the same quality in this one. In the new Yash Raj film, Chak De India, directed by Shimit Amin, SRK finds himself playing a coach for a girls' hockey team. The heroine of the film is Vidya Malvade (of Inteha and Mashooka fame).
To give the film a realistic tone, Vidya has gone through rigorous training in field hockey in order to be prepared for her role of an aspiring athlete. The conflicted heroine is trying to reconcile her hockey goals with her strick Sikh household (anyone seen Bend it Like Beckham?). SRK plays a retired hockey player who returns to the game to bring India's team to victory.
Shot largely in Australia, the film is scheduled for release on August 10th, 2007 - I'll keep you posted on my review. In the meantime, here's a couple of teasers of what's to come...
Hi Amreen,
I just saw the movie!!! It was okay in the beginning, and then it got better. There's this really funny scene where the women's hockey team is eating at a Mcdonald's and one of the players gets hit on by some slimeball and the whole women's team starts beating up all the guys! So funny!
