Resolutions for Better Health - The Key Question for Success!
Happy New Year! 2009 is going to a be a fantastic year for everyone, can't you just feel it? Despite the troubled economy, the year ahead also holds promise, hope and expectation for greatness - anything is possible. Really and truly.
For many, the new year is a time of resolution - a time to recommit to those goals for ourselves. Many people choose losing weight as a new years resolution (something which I blogged about earlier in December) - if your goal this year is to make your health a priority, congratulations! But, we need to make sure that your resolution doesn't fall by the waistside by February, so today I urge you to consider a key question to help you succeed.
My blog this week will be short and sweet - what I encourage everyone to think about when it comes to resolutions and really any goals that we set for ourselves is perhaps the most important question that will help determine your long-term success.
While millions of people set their resolution this year to lose weight, get in shape, eat healthy, quit smoking etc. etc. many forget to ask this important question. And that is...
"WHY do you want this?"
Easy to say. Sometimes hard to answer. What is the purpose or reason behind setting your resolutions this year? What will achieving this goal give you? How will you feel? What will change about your life as a result?
The "WHY" factor is so HUGE - and although the answer sometimes feels obvious (ie. I'll be happy when I fit into my skinny jeans!) - often times that isn't motivation enough to get us through the rough patches (and there WILL be those times - that's the definition of 'Life'!)
What we need to do is really sit and think (and write down!) WHY this resolution matters. I truly believe it comes from a place of self-worth. Not just fitting into jeans or looking good in a bikini. It comes down to how much we think we're worth it. Because its easy to make resolutions, but a lot harder to keep them. So knowing the WHY and really how much you feel you are worth making this commitment for is going to be the key to lasting success.
Best of luck to you all! You ARE worth it - make sure that is always top of mind!
