Sitar virtuoso and vocalist, Irshad Khan, will perform at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga on Friday, April 13 at 8pm.
A collaborative crossover from traditional Indian music to contemporary Jazz-Latin, Indo-Blues, to world-beat/fusion.
Irshad Khan is considered among the world's best Sitar players and the leading Surbahar (BassSitar) player of his generation and among the finest instrumentalists in the world.
His individual stamp on both of these instruments ascends from the distinctiveness of his technique. He is renowned not only for his mastery of these two instruments, but for his unique presentation of the different genres of Indian classical music, and his mastery of the intricate “gayaki-ang” (vocal) and “tantra-ang” (instrumental) styles, makes Irshad Khan one of the most dynamic musicians of today.
His style is followed by and has inspired many formative and professional sitar players of his generation.
Being recognized as a child prodigy, today he has emerged to be among the most sought after and versatile Indian musicians of India. He has achieved unparalleled mastery over sitar-surbahar technique and in different genres of Indian music such as Dhrupad, Khyal, Tappa, and Thumree.
The ‘World Ensemble’ performance celebrates the marriage of traditional Indian instrument Sitar with accompanying musicians John Brownell - Western Drum Set, Dave Ramkissoon - Tabla, Brian Legere - Guitar, Mark West - Keyboards, Dave Field -Double Bass.
The music is based on moods and emotions and is improvised, musical pieces composed by Irshad Khan will be decided spontaneously on the stage.

Each raag has its own character: romance, peace, love, happiness, melancholy, excitement and more. "These characters are created spontaneously live on stage."
