The ticketed event was held at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre and showcased a newly polished talent by approximately 500 student dancers. The show also featured a performance by Shiamak’s Victory Arts Foundation (VAF) students in a specially choreographed routine.
This performing arts show – a complete treat for the whole family; is organized annually by ShiamakDavar International, showcasing the training, technique and grandeur learned by Shiamak’s students across the GTA. Performers at this much-awaited event go through a specially designed workshop that trains students in Shiamak’s Bollywood Jazz dance style. Summer Funk™ across the GTA, Vancouver and Calgary provides thousands of students with a wholesome performing arts experience. With a keen focus on technique, the workshop ensures that all students learn the finer nuances of dance, performance, professionalism and stage discipline.
They also help in personality development and give people a chance to break out of their routine and do what they love most. Shiamak’s motto of Have Feet, Will Dance assures that everyone can dance. “No one has two left feet” insists Shiamak and always encourages his students to be themselves no matter what the odds. 'Bharati' is a musical extravaganza - a delectable composite mix of the varied dances, music and folk traditions of India. Over the span of 90 minutes, the audience is guided through a brief but scintillating sampling of India's rich and breathtaking diversity.
Script Synopsis Siddharth, an Indian-born engineer, raised and living in the U.S. arrives in Varanasi to work on the Ganga Cleaning Project. Cynical and contemptuous of Indian things and every inch a Westerner, he is nevertheless attracted to the mysterious and elusive Bharati.
Orphaned at an early age and raised by the Domraja, king of Varanasi's cremation grounds, Bharati's appeal for Siddharth is instantaneous. He feels her presence everywhere but is unable to get close to her and know her. Domraja, Bharati's foster father, patriarchal and over-protective, also hinders the development of proximity between the two youngsters.
For Siddharth, the process of falling in love with Bharati is one of inner transformation. Through her, he falls in love with India, the traditional and the modern; India where all the centuries seem to coexist together in time, yet one that is constantly changing and evolving; an India enthusiastically embracing the latest the world has to offer, but without losing its cherished ancient values, India where organised disorder seems to be celebrated.
As Bharati introduces him to the wonder of India, Siddharth, who had come to cleanse the Ganga of its pollution, ends up discovering himself and the meaning of love.
Bharati awakens in Siddharth a yearning to connect with his own roots. Siddharth's is a powerful story of homecoming and likely to strike an emotional chord across the world, in all cultures.
See below for a sneak peak of Bharati, The Wonder that is India!
Music, dance and performance traditions have shaped the 'collective consciousness' of the Indian diaspora worldwide, and kept India alive in its collective imagination. Ingredients of popular culture have served as inspiration and link to Indian traditions and heritage. This show is at once a celebration of the vitality of these traditions and an invitation to sample and participate in their unique energy.
BHARATI, The Wonder that is India When: October 27, 2011 to November 6, 2011 Where: Sony Centre For The Performing Arts 1 Front St. E., Toronto, ON M5E 1B2
Britney Spears has decided to seek the help of popular Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam on the remix for her song “I Wanna Go”, which was released by Desi Hits! on Wednesday.
The song is Spears’s current single off of her seventh album Femme Fatale which reached platinum status after only a month in stores. Britney was really ecstatic about getting Nigam on the remix as she took to twitter to voice her excitement.
“So excited about having @SonuNigam on I Wanna Go. His Vocals add such a different feel which I love!”
“Watch out Bollywood, it’s Britney and Sonu! :)”
Nigam (who was recently in Toronto during IIFA weekend, performing with Jermaine Jackson) also used his twitter to convey his feelings about the collaboration, as he felt that the experience was awesome and he looked forward to future collaborations with the Pop princess.
Check out the remix below:
This is not Britney’s first taste of South Asian music, as her 2003 album In The Zone included a remix of her song "Me Against The World" Featuring Madonna, which was done by Indian producer Rishi Rich (Hum Tum).

The title literally translates as ‘My Princess, My Queen’,” said Brooklyn Shanti about the record. Destined to be a staple at weddings across the world, this is the first single from the Brooklyn Shanti EP which will release later this year.
