Welcome to the inaugural post of Focal Point! Essentially, my aim with this blog is to show you, in photos and commentary, our impact on and engagement with society around us as residents, citizens and South Asians.
For instance, on this July 1, I'm a resident of Toronto, a Canadian by birth, a South Asian by ancestry, and proud to be all three of those things. So, how do we begin showing off who we are and what we’re about?

It hasn’t been a very positive week for our country’s image with all
the G20 drama. Those of us who live here know better. Our Canada – with all of
its perfect imperfections – is where we choose to live, love and celebrate with
We do it in our own style, blending one aspect of our Canadian lives
with another aspect of our South Asian heritages. It blows our minds when we
see traces of our personal culture seamlessly blending in with our public lives
(like being able to fill a chai craving when you’re on the go in the middle of
the day – Chai Latte or Awake Tea Misto, anyone?).
Last year, I celebrated Canada’s 142nd
birthday with my siblings at a Blue Jays game. Canada had to share the
spotlight with fan birthday shout-outs, including one for my brother, Maninder.
